Testimonials

“My brother priests and I love to get away together to spend time in prayer and fraternity. St. John’s hermitage has been a wonderful place for us to rest and pray. I’m very grateful that our diocese has a retreat house that can be a place of peace and recreation for priests.”

I enjoyed my stay at the Hermitage. The house was very comfortable and spacious. The kitchen was well-supplied and perfect for cooking big meals or small. The outdoor patio and fireplace are pleasant to sit around.

The rural surroundings are very quiet and provide a peaceful environment for prayer and relaxation. I enjoyed my weekend there and felt refreshed when I left. I want to thank the Griffiths for their generosity and support of the clergy through this worthwhile endeavor.

I support the efforts to make the Hermitage a continued place for retreat and relaxation.

My stay at St. John’s Hermitage was a profound blessing for me as a priest. The peace and quiet of the house created the perfect environment to step away from the constant demands of parish life and to prayerfully prepare for the coming year of pastoral ministry. In that setting of silence and simplicity, I was able to reflect, pray, and renew my focus on the mission entrusted to me.

What struck me most was not only the physical beauty and tranquility of the hermitage, but the clear intention behind it. Knowing that this place exists because of the sincere concern of faithful people for the well-being of priests was deeply encouraging. It is a visible expression of love for the priesthood and a reminder that our ministry is supported and cherished by the wider Church.

Many priests do not have a place outside of their parish where they can truly step away. Our rectories are often both our homes and our workplaces, making genuine rest difficult. St. John’s Hermitage offers something rare and necessary: a place where a priest can simply “come away and rest awhile,” as the Lord invites His disciples to do. I am deeply grateful for this initiative and the generosity that made it possible. My hope is that St. John’s Hermitage will continue to flourish as a place of prayer, renewal, and quiet restoration for many priests in the years to come.
