Welcome! Get to Know Our Mission …
Welcome to St. John’s Hermitage, named after St. John the Apostle and Evangelist.
This will be a unique and welcoming place of refreshment, hospitality, contemplation, fraternity and recreation for priests, deacons and seminarians from the Columbus Diocese, the six surrounding Ohio diocese and the diocese of Covington, Kentucky.

A place for relaxation…
St. John’s Hermitage is nestled in the rolling hills and ravines of McDermott, Ohio about 10 miles from Shawnee Hills State Park.

A place for inspired prayer…
With approximately 54 undeveloped acres surrounding the property, St. John’s Hermitage is the perfect place to spend time in the presence of our Holy Father.

A Place for Reflection…
The hermitage is a place for all seasons and Mass, prayer, meals and fraternity with clergy, recreation indoors and out and a place for rest and reflection away from every day responsibilities.

A place to remember…
St. John’s Hermitage is the convergence of two dreams and a Spirit-led, Spirit-filled mission. It is the result one family’s desire to find a way to support and encourage the priests and deacons who answer God’s call to ministry in the Catholic church.

Our Mission
To provide dedicated space, facilities, and resources to encourage and support the spiritual, emotional and physical health of Catholic priests, deacons and seminarians.
Through a generous donation by a Catholic family in the Columbus diocese, this 62 beautiful wooded acre sanctuary includes plans for a chapel, meeting spaces and overnight accommodations that will be made available to Roman Catholic clergy and seminarians 24/7/365.
St. John’s will provide the place and space for relaxation, prayer, recreation, education, spiritual direction, fraternity, pastoral care, reflection and respite from daily responsibilities.
Won’t You Join Us in Thanking Our Beloved Priests and Deacons?
We are a self-governing organization dedicated to serving priests, deacons and seminarians. To do this, we begin by building awareness about this project and the need for parish families’ support for this truly heart-felt movement of love and the clergy and seminarians and all that they do to serve their parishioners and the needs of their diocese.
Won’t you join our efforts to help make this vision a reality?
